Ethical Tea Tastes Better
Since Metropolitan Tea started started in the tea business in 1978, the tea world has undergone massive change.
One of the most positive global developments has been the formation of ETP, a not-for-profit organization that convenes tea companies, development agencies, governmental and non-governmental organizations to improve the lives of communities within the tea sector.
We were so impressed by their ethical commitment that in 2003, we became the first non-UK firm to obtain membership. To this day, whenever possible, we buy from ETP approved Estates, and promote their policies on our travels around the globe.
A TRANSPARENT VIEW OF THE TEA TRADE
The goal of the ETP is to provide consumers with a complete understanding of where tea is grown and manufactured. Everything from fair compensation to health coverage, housing and childcare comes under close scrutiny.
We work in partnership with the ETP to tackle the deep-rooted issues that are holding back the sustainability of the tea sector.
These include:
• Improving the incomes and well-being of farmers and workers
• Improving living conditions and nutrition
• Improving the lives and opportunities for women and young people in tea communities and reducing gender-based violence
• Improving climate change resilience
Purchasing ETP certified teas is the best way to ensure that your teas were produced in an ethical manner.
