Frequently Asked Questions about Food Services

Can I use the same French press for serving tea and coffee?
While a tea press can be used for brewing coffee and vice versa, we advise against it. Over time, the natural oils present in both tea and coffee will season the presses. As a result, tea that has been brewed in a press previously used for coffee may carry a coffee-related taint.

How many servings will 1 lb of loose leaf tea make?
1 lb of loose leaf tea will make approximately 800-900 single cup servings. That said, there are many variables. For example, if you plan to add milk and sugar, you should probably use a bit more tea per serving for a stronger cup.

How do I prepare loose tea? Hot and iced?
Hot tea: Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 teaspoon of tea for each cup into the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot. Cover and let steep for 3-7 minutes according to taste (the longer the steeping time the stronger the tea).  Strain into cups with a strainer.

Iced tea (makes 1 liter/quart): Place 6 teaspoons of tea into a teapot or heat resistant pitcher. Pour 1 1/4 cups of freshly boiled water over the tea. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water. Pour the tea into your serving pitcher straining the leaves. Add ice and top-up with cold water. Garnish and sweeten to taste. [A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced tea is to double the strength of hot tea since it will be poured over ice and diluted with cold water].  Note: high quality teas may go cloudy or ‘milky’ when poured over ice - nothing to worry about!
